DEFisaliquid urea solutionused forexhaust gas
aftertreatment of dieselengines. In order forthe
exhaustgas aftertreatment to function properly,
only use DEF in accordance withISO 22241.

cialistworkshops, e.g. an authorized
Mercedes-Benz Center,and at numerous gas
stations as aDEF refill canisterorDEF refill
bottle.

DEFfreezes at atemperatureofapprox‐
imately12.2 °F (-11°C).The vehicle is equip‐
ped withaDEF preheating system at thefac‐
tory.Thismeans that winter operation is also
ensured fortemperatures below12.2 °F
(-11°C).Ifyou add DEF at temperatures
below12.2 °F (-11°C),the DEF levelinthe
instrument clustermay notbedisplayedcor‐
rectly.Ifthe DEF is frozen, drivefor at least
20 minutesand then parkthe vehicle fora
minimumof30seconds, so that thelevel is
correctlydisplayed. In extreme winter condi‐
tions, thetime needed to detect thetop-up
amount maybeconsiderably longer.Parkthe
vehicle in awarmgaragetospeed up this
process.
