Remove key 1 from your keyring.
#
Insertkey 1 intothe slot.
The vehicle is startedafter abrief time.
#
Leave thekey insertedduring theentirejour‐
ney.
#
If youpull key 1 out of theslot, theengine
continues to run.
#
Have key 1 checkedataqualified specialist
workshop.
If thevehicle doesnot start:
#
Leave key 1 in theslot.
#
Press thebrake pedal.
#
Startthe vehicle withthe start/stop button.

Youcan also switch on thepower supplyor
theignition withthe start/stop button.
Breaking-in notes
Protect theengine during thefirst 1,000 miles
(1,500 km) by:
R
driving at varying road and engine speeds.
R
shiftingtothe next gear up when or before
thetachometerneedle is Ô of theway to the
redarea.
R
avoiding stress on thevehicle suchasdriving
at full throttle.
R
notshifting manuallytoalowergear to brake.
R
after1,000 miles (1,500km),gradually
increasing theengine speed and accelerate
thevehicle up to full speed.
R
vehicles with automatic transmission: not
depressing theacceleratorpedalbeyond the
pressurepoint (kickdown).
This also applies if theengine or parts of thedriv‐
etrain have been replaced.
Also observe thefollowing breaking-in notes:

The sensorsofthe ESP
®
driving safetysystem
adjustautomaticallywhile acertaindistance
is beingdrivenafter thevehicle has been
delivered or afterrepairs. Full system effec‐
tivenessisnot reached until theend of this
teach-in process.
R
Neworexchanged brakepads, brakediscs
and tires onlyprovide optimal braking and
bonding afterseveral hundred kilometers.
Until then, compensatefor thereduced brak‐
ing effect by applying greater pressuretothe
brakepedal.
Driving tips
Notesondriving
&
WARNING Risk of accident dueto
objectsinthe driver's footwell
Objectsinthe driver's footwell mayimpede
pedal travel or blockadepressed pedal.
This jeopardizes theoperating and road
safetyofthe vehicle.

Stow all objectsinthe vehicle securely
so that they cannotget intothe driver's
footwell.
#
Ensurefloor mats and carpets cannot
slip and provide sufficient room forthe
pedals.
#
Do notlay multiple floor mats or carpets
on topofone another.

WARNING Risk of accident dueto
unsuitable footwear
Operationofthe pedals mayberestricted due
to unsuitable footwear suchas:

Shoes withplatform soles
R
Shoes withhigh heels
R
Slippers
#
When driving alwayswear suitable
shoes in order to be able to operatethe
pedals safely.
