Information on noise or unusualdriving
characteristics
Whiledriving, payattention to vibrations, noises
and unusual driving characteristics, e.g.pullingto
one side. This mayindicatedamagetothe wheels
or tires. If yoususpect that atireisdefective,
reduce your speed. Stop thevehicle as soon as
possible to checkifwheels and tires have been
damaged or arenolonger functioning properly.
Hidden tiredamagecould also be causing the
unusual drivingcharacteristics. If no signs of
damage can be detected, have thetires and
wheels checkedataqualified specialistwork‐
shop.
Notesonregularly inspecting wheels and
tires
&
WARNING Risk of accident from dam‐
aged tires
Damagedtires can cause tirepressureloss.
As aresult, youcouldlose control of your
vehicle.

Checkthe tires regularly forsigns of
damage and replace anydamaged tires
immediately.
Checkthe wheels and tires of your vehicle for
damageregularly,i.e. at leastevery twoweeks,
as well as afterdriving off-road or on rough
roads. Damaged wheels can lead to aloss of tire
pressure.
Look out forthe following types of damage, for
example:
R
cutsinthe tires
R
punctures in thetires
R
tearsinthe tires
R
bulges on tires
R
deformation or severe corrosion on wheels
&
WARNING Risk of hydroplaning because
tiretread is toolow
Insufficient tiretread will result in reduced
tiretraction.The tiretread will no longer be
able to dissipatewater.
This increasesthe risk of hydroplaning on wet
road surfaces, particularly when traveling at
an inappropriatespeed.
If thetirepressureistoo high or toolow,tires
mayexhibit different levels of wear at differ‐
ent locations on thetiretread.

Regularly checkthe tiretread depth and
thecondition of thetiretread across
theentirewidthofall tires.
Minimum tread depth foruse:
R
In summer: â in (3 mm)
R
In winter: ãin (4 mm)

Forsafetyreasons, have thetires
replaced beforethe legally prescribed
limit forthe minimum tiretread depth is
reached.
Conduct thefollowing checks regularly on all
wheels, at leastonce amonthorasrequired, e.g.
beforealong journeyorwhen driving off-road:
R
checkthe tirepressure(/page296)
R
checkthe valvecaps
Valves mustbeprotected from moistureand
dirtwithvalvecapsspecifically approved by
Mercedes-Benzfor your vehicle.
R
visually inspect thetread depth and thetire
tread across thewhole tirewidth
Foruse in summer,the minimum tread depth
is â in (3 mm) and foruse in winter ã in
(4 mm).
Markings 1 showinwhichplaces thebar indica‐
tors (arrow)are integratedintothe tiretread.
Theyare visible as soon as thetread depth is
approximately á in (1.6 mm).
Information on driving withsummer tires
At temperatures below5F(10 °C) summer
tires lose elasticityand thereforetraction and
braking power. Change thetires on your vehicle
to M+S tires. Using summer tires at very cold
temperatures could cause tearstoform, thereby
damaging thetires permanently. Mercedes-Benz
