6. Remove the oil seal and spring seal (Fig ur e 125 )
from the valve guide.
7. Repeat Steps 2-6 for all intake and exhaust
valves.
8. Mark all pariS (Fig ur e 126) as they are
disassembled so thai they will be installed in their
same locations. The exhaust valves arc at the front
of the cylind er head and the intake valves are
iOClllcd at the rcar.

J. Clean the valves with a soft wire brush and
solvent.
2. Inspect th e contact su rface of each va l ve
( Figure 127) fo r burning or pitting. Unevenness
oflhe contact su rf ace is an indication that the va l ve
is not serviceable. The valve contae! surface can
1101 be ground and must be replaced if defective.
3. In spect each va l ve stem for wear and roug hn ess
and measure the Yerlical runout of the va l ve stem
as shown
in .' igure 128 . The runout should not
exceed the service lim it listed in Table I.
4. Me asure eaeh valve stem for wear ( Hgure U9 ).
If worn to the wear limill iSled in Table 1, or less.
the valve must be replaced.
