Controls
Automatic transmission
You can restrict or extend the shift range
using the steering wheel gearshift buttons.
You can change gear using the steering
wheel gearshift buttons in the manual
drive program.
1 Right-hand button: extends the shift
range or shifts up (in manual drive pro-
gram M)
2 Left-hand button: restricts the shift
range or shifts down (in manual drive
program M)
Extending the shift range/upshifting
왘 Press button 1 on the right-hand side
of the steering wheel.
The shift range (
컄 page 296) is extend-
ed. If you are driving in manual drive
program M, the automatic transmis-
sion shifts up to the next gear.
i If the maximum engine speed for the shift
range is reached and you continue to accelerate,
the automatic transmission shifts up, even if the
shift range is restricted. The engine could over-
rev.
Restricting the shift range/
downshifting
왘 Press button 2 on the left-hand side of
the steering wheel.
The shift range (
컄 page 296) is restrict-
ed. If you are driving in manual drive
program M, the automatic transmis-
sion shifts down to the next gear.
i If you press left button 2 when the engine
speed is too high, the automatic transmission
will not shift down. The engine could overrev.
i When the automatic transmission is in posi-
tion P, N or R, you cannot change gear using the
steering wheel gearshift buttons.
If manual drive program M has been selected
and you restart the engine, the automatic trans-
mission will switch to automatic drive program S.
If automatic drive program S or C has been se-
lected, the automatic transmission will remain in
the appropriate drive program even after the en-
gine has been restarted.

G Risk of accident
Do not change down for additional engine
braking on a slippery road surface. This could
cause the drive wheels to lose their grip and
the vehicle could skid.
