Battery
i Have the batteries charged at a qualified
specialist workshop. Mercedes-Benz recom-
mends that you use a Mercedes-Benz Service
Centre for this purpose. If you are charging the
batteries yourself, observe the operating instruc-
tions for your battery charger.
! Only use battery chargers with a maximum
voltage of 14.8 V.
Starter battery
왘 Make sure that the battery charger is
switched off and connect it to the ter-
minals on the starter battery. Observe
the notes in the operating instructions
for the battery charger when doing so.
왘 Refit the charged starter battery and
fold the bar down.
왘 Fit the starter battery in the engine
compartment.
왘 Fold the retainer down.
! Make sure that the base plate and the bat-
tery securing rings are fitted securely.
Charging the battery
G Risk of injury
Never charge a battery while it is installed in
the vehicle, unless you use a battery charger
that has been tested and approved for
Mercedes-Benz vehicles. With these battery
chargers it is possible to charge the battery
without first removing it from the vehicle.
Otherwise, the vehicle’s electronic system
may be damaged. Before charging the bat-
tery, check the central vent for correct seat-
ing.
Batteries without a central vent must be re-
moved before charging.
Only charge the battery in a well ventilated
area. As the battery is being charged, gases
can escape and generate minor explosions,
which may injure you and other persons or
cause damage to the paintwork or acid cor-
rosion on the vehicle.
G Risk of injury
You can obtain information about batteries
and battery chargers with which it is possi-
ble to charge the battery while it is installed
in the vehicle from a qualified specialist
workshop, e.g. a Mercedes-Benz Service
Centre.
G Risk of acid burns
There is a risk of acid burns during the
charging procedure due to the gases which
escape from the battery. Do not lean over
the battery when it is being charged.
