Automatic transmission
Kickdown
Use kickdown for maximum acceleration.
왘 Depress the accelerator pedal beyond
the pressure point.
The transmission shifts to a lower gear
depending on the engine speed.
왘 Once the desired speed has been
reached, ease off the accelerator ped-
al.
The automatic transmission shifts back
up.
Stopping
If you are only stopping briefly:
왘 Stay in drive position D.
왘 Activate HOLD (컄 page 325).
or
왘 Prevent the vehicle from rolling away
by applying the electric parking brake.
Manoeuvring
If you are manoeuvring in a tight space:
왘 Control the road speed by braking
carefully.
왘 Depress the accelerator pedal careful-
ly. Depress the accelerator smoothly.
i For fast manoeuvring (e.g. to rock free in
snow and slush), you can shift between D and R
at low speeds by pushing the selector lever up or
down beyond the first point of resistance.
Hill pull-away aid
The hill pull-away aid assists you when pull-
ing away on an uphill gradient, both in D
and in R.
When pulling away on a gradient, your ve-
hicle is held for approximately one second
after you have removed your foot from the
brake pedal. This allows you enough time
to move your foot from the brake pedal to
the accelerator pedal and to pull away
without the vehicle immediately rolling
away.
왘 Remove your foot from the brake pedal
and carefully depress the accelerator
pedal.
The hill pull-away aid will not function if:
ì•« you are pulling away on a level road
surface or downhill
ì•« the automatic transmission is in the N
position
ì•« the vehicle is secured with the electric
parking brake
ì•« ESP
®
is malfunctioning
G Risk of accident
Never leave the vehicle when it is held by the
hill pull-away aid. After approximately one
second, the hill pull-away aid will no longer
brake your vehicle and it could roll away.
