Operation
Tyres and wheels
! Store tyres in a cool, dry place, preferably in
the dark. Protect the tyres from oil, grease, pet-
rol and diesel fuel.
Do not clean your wheels with acidic wheel
cleaners since these could corrode the heads of
wheel bolts.
Tyres with a specified direction of rotation
have additional benefits, e.g. if aquaplan-
ing occurs. These benefits will only be
available to you if the correct direction of
rotation is observed.
An arrow on the sidewall of the tyre indi-
cates its correct direction of rotation.
i You may fit a spare tyre* against the direc-
tion of rotation.
The MOExtended emergency running sys-
tem enables you to continue driving the ve-
hicle even when all air is lost from one or
more tyres.
You may only use the MOExtended run-flat
system in conjunction with the tyre pres-
sure loss warning system or the tyre pres-
sure monitor.
You will find notes on driving with a flat
tyre in the Practical advice section
(
컄 page 517).
Only correct tyre pressures when the tyres
are cold.
The pressure of warm tyres should only be
corrected if it is too low for the current op-
erating conditions. Warm tyres always
have higher pressures than cold ones.
You will find a table of tyre pressures for
different operating conditions on the in-
side of your vehicle’s fuel filler flap.
i Tyre pressure values given for low loads are
minimum values which offer you good ride com-
fort characteristics.
You can, however, also use the values for higher
loads. These are permissible and will not ad-
versely affect the running of the vehicle. Howev-
er, ride comfort will be impaired to some degree.
Also check the tyre pressure of the spare
wheel*.
Tyre pressure changes by approximately
0.1 bar for every 10 °C change in ambient
temperature.
If you measure the tyre pressure indoors
where the temperature differs from the
outside temperature, you will have to cor-
rect the measured value accordingly.
When the vehicle is driven, the tyre tem-
perature, and with it the tyre pressure, will
increase depending on the road speed and
the load on the tyres.
While the vehicle is in motion the tyre pres-
sure loss warning system monitors the tyre
pressure set by evaluating the speed of the
individual wheels. The system can there-
fore recognise any significant loss of tyre
pressure in a wheel.

Tyre pressures
G Risk of accident
If the pressure in a tyre drops repeatedly, in-
spect the tyre for foreign objects and check
whether the tyre or valve are leaking.
G Risk of accident
Check tyre pressure regularly, at least every
two weeks. If the tyre pressure is incorrect,
your vehicle’s handling characteristics could
be altered or the tyre could explode.
