Layer 3 Routing Commands 1268
subsequent retry doubles the previous retry interval. So by default, the TCP
connection is retried after 2, 4, and 8 seconds. If none of the retries is
successful, the adjacency is reset to the IDLE state and the IDLE hold timer
is started. BGP skips the retries and transitions to IDLE state if TCP returns
an error, such as destination unreachable, on a connection attempt. The
VLAN interface must also be specified if a link-local address is specified.
