General safety instructions
Adjusting the exterior mirrors and interior mirror
while driving can distract the driver. This can lead
to accidents and serious injury.
Adjust the exterior mirrors and the interior
mirror only when the vehicle is stationary.
When parking, changing lanes, overtaking or
turning, always keep a close eye on your
surroundings, as you may find yourself in the
blind spot.
other road users or objects.
Always ensure that the mirrors are correctly
adjusted and that visibility to the rear is not
reduced by ice, snow or snow,
fogging or an object.
WARNING
Switch the ignition off and then on again.
If the fault persists, contact a specialist
workshop.
Abnormal operation of rain and
light
sensor
Examples of possible causes of malfunctions and
misinterpretations in the area of the sensitive
surface → p. 6 of the rain and light sensor:
Windscreen
wiper blades in poor condition:
The
presence of a film or streaks of water due to poor
wiper blades can lead to prolonged wiper
operation, significantly shortened wiping
intervals or rapid and continuous wiping.
Insects: The impact of mosquitoes on the
windscreen wiper may cause the windscreen
wiper to operate.
Traces of salt: In winter, the windscreen wiper
may run longer than normal due to the presence
of salt traces on the almost dry windscreen.
Dirt: Dried dust, wax, protective film (lotus
effect), residues of deter- minants (from the
automatic car wash system), etc. on the
windscreen can cause the rain and light sensor
to react less sensitively, later, more slowly or not
at all. Clean the sensitive surface of the rain and
light sensor regularly.
and check that the wiper blades are not damaged
→ page 289.
Crack in windscreen: The impact of a stone
causes the windscreen wiper to perform a
wiping cycle if the rain and light sensor is
activated. The sensor then detects that the
sensitive surfaces have been reduced and
adapts. Depending on the size of the impact, the
activation behaviour of the sensor may change.
If the wiper encounters an obstacle on the
glass, it will try to sweep it away. If the
obstacle
continues to block the operation of the wiper, the
wiper will stop. Remove the obstacle and start the
wiper again.
Rear-view
mirrors
Through the exterior mirrors and the interior rear-
view mirror, the driver can observe vehicles behind
and adapt his or her driving behaviour accordingly.
For safe driving, it is important for the driver to
adjust the exterior mirrors and the interior mirror
correctly before setting off.
When looking through the exterior mirrors and the
interior mirror, it is not possible to see the entire
area behind and to the sides of the vehicle. These
areas outside the field of vision are called the blind
spot. Other road users and objects may be in the
blind spot.
Failure to accurately estimate the distance to
vehicles behind can lead to accidents and serious
injuries.
Curved (convex or aspherical) mirrors
increase the field of view and objects appear
smaller and further away.
Curved mirrors do not allow accurate
calculation of the distance to vehicles behind,
so that the mirror can only be used in the
event of a collision.
The use of a vehicle when changing lanes could
lead to accidents and serious injuries.
Whenever possible, use the rear-view mirror to
calculate the exact distance to the rear of the
vehicle.
