Overview of fastening systems
— ISOFIX: ISOFIX is a standardised fastening
system that allows fast and secure attachment
of child seats in the vehicle. The ISOFIX fixture
establishes a rigid connection between the child
seat and the body.
The child seat is equipped with two rigid mounting
brackets called connectors. These connectors fit
into ISOFIX eyelets which are located between the
bench seat and the backrest of the vehicle's rear
seat (on the side seats)→ p. 57. If necessary, the
ISOFIX attachment must be supplemented with a
top tether belt (Top Tether).

Additional fixings:
— Top Tether: The top tether belt is guided over the
rear seat backrest and attached with a hook to
an anchorage point at the rear of the rear seat.

— Support leg: Some child seats are supported
on the vehicle floor with a support leg. This
prevents the child seat from tipping forward in

Recommended child seat attachment systems
Volkswagen recommends fixing child seats as
follows:
— Rearward-facing child restraints or child seats :
ISO-FIX and support leg.
— Forward-facing child seats : ISOFIX and Top Tether
and, if necessary, also a support leg.
To prevent injury in the event of a side or head
airbag deployment:
•
Make sure that the child is not in the airbag
deployment zones → p. 45.
•
Do not leave any objects in the deployment area
of the side airbag.
