Vehicles with
special
attachments and body
structures
The manufacturers of accessories and body shells
(conversions) ensure that they comply with
current environmental laws and regulations, in
particular EU Directives 2000/53/EC and
2003/11/EC. The first one regulates the
management of end-of-life vehicles and the second
one refers to provisions limiting the placing on the
market and use of certain dangerous substances
and preparations.
The owner of the vehicle must keep the installation
documents for the conversions and, if the vehicle is
to be scrapped, hand them in when the vehicle is
handed over. This ensures that vehicles that have
been retrofitted are also recycled in an
environmentally friendly manner.
Windscreen repairs
In order to fulfil their function, some equipment
requires electrical or electronic components, which,
e.g. they are attached to the inside of the
windscreen in the area of the interior rear-view
mirror. The windscreen must be replaced if it is
damaged, e.g. by a stone impact in the field of
vision of these electrical/electronic components.
The repair of such an impact may cause
malfunction or abnormal operation of the
equipment concerned.
After replacing the windscreen, the camera and
sensors must be adjusted and calibrated by a
specialist workshop.
Damage to sensors and cameras
Incorrect repairs, structural modifications to the
vehicle (e.g. lowering the suspension), retrofitting
of accessories or modifications to the rear-view
mirror may cause the sensors and cameras to
become maladjusted or damaged. This can also be
caused by a bump when parking, or even minor
damage such as a stone hitting the windscreen.
Do not cover the area in front of and around the
sensors and cameras with stickers, additional
headlamps, number plate surrounds, or if
necessary, any other type of covering.
milars! Note the position of sensors and cameras in
the vehicle → p. 6.
Failure to do so may impair the function of
important functions of the driver assistance systems
and may result in damage to the vehicle.
Only have repairs or structural modifications carried out by
specialised workshops.
Other indications:
—
If the sensor area is painted in a different
colour or repainted, the function of the system
in question may be impaired.
—
On some vehicle versions, the Volkswagen
emblem may affect the visibility of the radar
sensor at the front of the vehicle. Therefore,
only use the vehicle with the original
Volkswagen emblem or one approved for this
purpose by Volkswagen.
Protection for the underbody of the drive train
This protection reduces the risk of damage to the
vehicle's underbody and engine oil sump, e.g. when
climbing kerbs, at driveways or driving on unpaved
roads.
Volkswagen recommends having this protection
retrofitted by a Volkswagen dealer.
Underbody protection for the power train may not
be available in all countries.
