Introduction to the topic
The Front Assist emergency braking system with
city emergency braking function can help
prevent accidents.
—
The visibility of the radar sensor is impaired by
accessories, licence plate holder frames or
stickers. Leave the area around the radar sensor
free .
—
The radar sensor is out of adjustment or damaged,
e.g. due to damage to the front of the vehicle.
Check for visible damage
→ p. 293.
—
There is a fault or defect. Switch off the
engine and restart it.
—
Paintwork or structural modifications have been
carried out on the front of the vehicle.
—
The original Volkswagen emblem is not
being used.
—
If the problem persists, contact a specialised
workshop.
ACC does not work as expected
—
The radar sensor is dirty. Clean the radar sensor
→ p. 287.
—
System limits are exceeded → p. 142.
—
The brakes have overheated, the control is
automatically interrupted. Wait for the brakes to
cool down and check the function again.
—
If the problem persists, contact a specialised
workshop.
Regulation cannot be initiated
Ensure that the following requirements are met:
—
Vehicles with manual gearbox: is engaged one
gear forward higher than 1st gear and a speed
of at least 25 km/h (16 mph) is being driven.
—
Vehicles with automatic transmission: A forward
gear ratio is engaged.
—
The vehicle's brake lights work perfectly.
—
ESC is not regulating.
—
Brake pedal not depressed.
Unusual noises during automatic braking
—
These noises are normal and do not indicate any
abnormality.
Emergency
Brake Assist
(Front
Assist)
Front Assist can, within the limitations of the
system, warn the driver in the event of a collision,
prepare the vehicle for emergency braking, assist
the driver when braking and trigger automatic
braking. The timing of the warning varies
depending on the traffic situation.
and driver behaviour.
Front Assist cannot replace the driver's attention.
Driving with Front Assist
You can interrupt Front Assist's automatic brake
interventions by moving the steering wheel or
pressing the accelerator.
Automatic
braking
Front Assist can decelerate the vehicle until it is
fully de- creased. The vehicle will then not be held
permanently. Press the brake pedal!
During automatic braking the brake pedal offers
more resistance.
Radar sensor
Front Assist detects driving situations by means of
a radar sensor at the front of the vehicle. The
range of this sensor is approx. 120 m (400 ft).
Included
functions
The city emergency braking function is part of Front
Assist and is automatically activated when Front
Assist is activated.
The intelligent technology of Front Assist cannot
overcome the limits imposed by physical laws.
and only works within the limits of the system.
Never allow the increased comfort provided by
Front Assist to induce you to take any safety
risks. The driver is always responsible for braking
in good time.
