Airbag system

Do not deactivate the front passenger frontal
airbag except in special cases.
To avoid damage to the system, only activate
and deactivate the front passenger frontal
airbag with the ignition switched off.
The driver is responsible for ensuring that
the key switch is in the correct position.
Deactivate the front passenger frontal airbag
only if, in exceptional cases, a rear-facing child
seat is already fitted in the front passenger
seat.
in the opposite direction to the direction of
travel in the front passenger seat.
Re-activate the front passenger frontal airbag
as soon as the rear-facing child seat is no
longer in use.

If a rearward-facing child seat is installed in the front
passenger seat

Activating the front passenger frontal airbag
Switch off the ignition.
Open the passenger door.
Unfold the vehicle key handle completely.
Insert the key stick as far as the second key
switch socket on the dashboardfig. 38.
Approx. 3/4 of the key stick is then in the key
switch → .
Without exerting much force, turn the key to
the position.
Remove the key from the switch and fold down
the paddle .
The yellow control lamp PASSEN-
GER AIR BAG lights up on the centre console
and goes out after approx. 60 secondspage 46.
Close the passenger door.
Check that, when the ignition is switched on,
the yellow PASSEN- indicator lamp is
illuminated.
GER AIR BAG in the centre console is not
switched on → page 46.
Deactivating the front passenger frontal airbag
Switch off the ignition.
Open the passenger door.
Unfold the vehicle key handle completely.
Insert the key stick all the way into the second
key switch socket on the dashboard → fig. 38.
Approx. 3/4 of the key stick is then in the key
switch → .
Without exerting much force, turn the key to
the position.
Remove the key from the switch and fold down
the paddle .
Close the passenger door.
The yellow control lamp PASSEN-
GER AIR BAG in the centre console will
remain on as long as the ignition is switched on
p. 46.

Deactivation of the front passenger frontal airbag
onlyis indicated by the indicator lamp PAS-
SENGER AIR BAG which,in this case, remains
lit ( remains lit in yellow)

If the yellow control lamp PASSEN-
GER AIR BAG
does not stay on
or
lights up
together with the yellow indicator lamp
If a child restraint system is installed in the front
passenger seat, do not mount it on the instrument
panel display for safety reasons. The front
passenger air bag could be triggered in the event
of an accident.
