Parking and
manoeuvring
•
Have vehicle conversions and modifications
carried out only by specialised workshops.
•
Always use suitable tyres. Driving stability
depends on the grip of the tyres.
If a vehicle is driven without a brake booster, the
braking distance may increase considerably and
serious accidents and injuries may result.
•
Never switch off the engine or switch off the
ignition when the vehicle is in motion.
•
If the brake booster does not work or the
vehicle is being towed, the brake pedal must
be pressed harder, as the braking distance is
increased.
The brake system is not functioning due to a
lack of assistance from the brake servo.
WARNING
When ESC is switched off, the danger of skidding
is much greater than when ESC is switched on!
Especially at high speeds, inexperienced drivers
may find it difficult to control the vehicle, resulting
in accidents and serious injuries!

Volkswagen therefore recommends switching
off ESC only under the following conditions:
— If you drive on a closed or racing circuit.
— If you have experience in sports driving.
•
Do not take any safety risks and observe the
limits imposed by physical laws.
WARNING
Key on the centre console
Fig. 134 On the centre console: button for switching on
and manually switch off ASR or ESC Sport (depending
on equipment).
Possible walking situations
— Switch off ASR:
Insufficient traction is achieved, e.g. when
driving in deep snow or on loose ground, or to
"uncouple" the vehicle if it becomes stuck.
— Connect ESC Sport → :
When driving in a sporty driving style, ESC
intervenes somewhat later to stabilise the
vehicle.
Switch off and on the brake assist system
— Open the vehicle settings of the infotainment
system. → p. 29
— Open the settings for the parking systems.
— Switch the function on or off by marking the
check box.
— OR: press the→ button →
fig. 134 on the central console (depending on
equipment).
— ASR is switched off.
Press again to switch the ASR back on.
Press and hold down → fig. 134 for approx. 3
seconds.
— ASR is switched off and ESC Sport is switched on.
Press again to reconnect the ASR and normal
ESC.
Problems and solutions
ABS does not work properly or not at all
The control lamp lights up yellow.
— Have the vehicle serviced by a specialist
workshop. The vehicle's brakes continue to work
without ABS.
Switching ASR or ESC Sport on and
off
Press the button → fig. 134 for approx. 1 second.
