Use the
electronic
parking brake
Improper use of the electronic parking brake
can lead to serious accidents and injuries.
•
Never use the electronic parking brake to
brake the vehicle, unless it is an emergency.
The distance from the vehicle to the parking
brake should be as short as possible.
The braking distance is considerably longer, as
under certain circumstances only the rear
wheels will be braked. Always use the brake
pedal.
•
Never accelerate when a gear ratio is selected
or a gear is engaged.
and the engine running. The vehicle may be set
in motion even with the electronic parking brake
engaged.
If the vehicle is left improperly, it could roll away.
This could result in accidents, serious injury and
property damage.
When parking the vehicle, please observe the
legal regulations.

Connect
When the electric parking brake is on, the
indicator light in the instrument panel
lights up red.

With the vehicle stopped, pull the key
and hold it in that position.
The indicator light of button → fig. 127 lights up
yellow.
Disconnect
—
Switch on the ignition.
—
Depress the brake pedal and press the key .
—
OR: with the engine running, press lightly on the
accelerator pedal without depressing the brake
pedal.

display go out.
Automatic disengagement of the
electronic
parking
brake
at the start of the journey
The electronic parking brake is automatically
disengaged when driving off if one of the following
situations occurs when the driver's door is closed →
:

DSG dual clutch gearbox: A gear ratio is
selected or the selector lever is shifted.
—
Manual gearbox: The clutch is fully depressed
before starting to drive.
Starting on steep slopes or with
a heavy load
The automatic disengagement of the parking brake
can be prevented by continuously pulling up the
button when driving off.
If a high engine power is required when starting
off, the electronic parking brake is not
disengaged until the button is released.
Automatic engagement of the
electronic
parking
brake
when exiting the vehicle inappropriately
In vehicles with automatic transmission or
DSG®
dual clutch transmission, the electronic parking
brake can be automatically engaged if the system
detects that the vehicle has been inappropriately
exited.
Emergency brake function
Use the emergency brake function only in an
emergency if you cannot stop the vehicle by
pressing the brake pedal → !

Pull the key and hold it in this position. The
vehicle will brake abruptly. An acoustic warning
signal will sound at the same time.
