Driving preparations and
driving
safety
For your own safety and that of your passengers
and other road users, please observe the following
points before and during driving → :
✓ Check that the lighting system and direction
indicators are functioning correctly.
✓ Check the tyre pressure and fuel level → page
263, → page 19.
✓ Check the washer fluid level
→ p. 244.
✓ Ensure that all windows are clean and offer
good visibility → page 289.
✓ Do not obstruct the air intake to the engine.
Do not cover the engine with blankets or
insulating materials → p. 240.
✓ Secure objects and all luggage securely in the
luggage racks and the luggage
compartment.
→ p. 218.
✓ Make sure that nothing can prevent you from
operating the pedals at all times.
✓ When transporting children, use a restraint
system appropriate to their weight and
height.
→ p. 52.
✓ Ensure that the front seats, head restraints
and mirrors are adjusted according to the
height of the occupants.
→ p. 35, → p. 99.
✓ Wear footwear that provides good foot
support when operating the pedals.
✓ Make sure that the driver's side footwell mat
clears the area of the pedals and is securely
fixed.
✓ Ensure that you adopt the correct seating
position before and during the journey. This
also applies to the other occupants of the
vehicle.

✓ Put the seat belt on correctly before driving
and keep it on correctly during the journey.

✓ Transport only as many persons as there are
seats and seat belts in the vehicle.
✓ Never drive if your driving ability is impaired,
e.g. due to the effects of medication, alcohol or
drugs.
✓ Always keep an eye on the traffic and do not
get distracted, e.g. by settings, menus,
passengers or phone calls.
✓ Always adapt your speed and driving style to
the visibility, weather, road and traffic
conditions.
✓ Respect the highway code and prescribed
speed limits.
✓ On long journeys, stop regularly to rest, at
least every 2 hours.
✓ If transporting animals in the vehicle, do so
safely using a suitable system.

Driving abroad
Some countries have special safety regulations and
provisions that the vehicle may not comply with.
Before travelling abroad, Volkswagen
recommends that you ask your Volkswagen
dealer about the legal regulations and the
following points for your destination country:
✓ Is it necessary to make any technical
modifications to the vehicle before going
abroad?
e.g. covering headlamps with stickers or
changing their orientation?
✓ Are the tools, diagnostic equipment and spare
parts required for maintenance and repair work
available in the country of destination?
✓ Are there Volkswagen dealers in the country
of destination?
✓ Are the appropriate operating fluids available in
the country of destination in accordance with
Volkswagen specifications → p. 243?
✓ Does the navigation function of the factory-
fitted infotainment system work in the country
of destination with the available navigation
data?
✓ Are special tyres necessary for driving in the
country of destination?
✓ Is it compulsory in the country of destination
to carry a fire extinguisher in the vehicle?
✓ What are the requirements for reflective
waistcoats?
✓ Is fuel of sufficient quality available → p.
