Important information on wheels and tyres
The use of unsuitable snow chains or the
incorrect co-location of chains can lead to
accidents and serious injuries.
•
Always use suitable snow chains.
•
Observe the assembly instructions of the
chain manufacturer.
•
Never drive faster than the permitted speed
when chains are fitted.
If there is ice or snow on the road, chains improve
traction and braking behaviour.
Snow chains
may
only be fitted
to the front wheels

only on the
following rim/tyre combinations

Volkswagen recommends that you contact your
Volkswagen dealer for information on the correct
size of wheels, tyres and snow chains .
As far as possible, use thin chain slings that do not
protrude more than 13.5 mm beyond the padlock,
including the lock.
However, for safety reasons, the wheel bolts
must be fitted with wheel caps, which are
available from Volkswagen dealers.
Use of snow chains with the
emergency
tyre
or
inflatable spare tyre mounted
For technical reasons, it is not permitted to use
snow chains on the emergency wheel and the
inflatable spare wheel → p. 275.
—
If a front wheel fails, fit the emergency wheel or
inflatable spare wheel on the rear axle.
—
Exchange the damaged front wheel with the free
rear axle wheel. When doing so, pay attention to
the direction of rotation of the tyre.
Volkswagen recommends fitting the chains to the
wheel before fitting.
The tyres will quickly become irreparably
damaged.
•
Chains that come into direct contact with the rim
could scratch or damage the rim. Volkswagen
recommends the use of chains with integrated
protection.
harrow for the rims.
On vehicles equipped with the tyre monitoring
system, the following must be adapted
the system again after fitting snow chains → page

Hubcaps
Centre
hubcaps
Fig. 185 Remove the centre hub cap by pulling it off.
The centre hub cap protects the wheel bolts and
must be refitted after the wheel has been
replaced.
—
Remove: Remove the wire hook from the on-
board tools → p. 226 and insert it into a hole
(light alloy rim) or hook it into the rim (steel rim)
of the hub cap.
→ fig. 185.
—
Pull the hub cap in the direction of the arrow.
—
Fitting: Press the hub cap against the rim
until you feel it click into place.
•
Remove snow chains when they are no longer
required. Otherwise, the chains will only impair
the driving properties, damage the road surface
and damage the
