Lane Departure Warning Assistant
149
Always keep your hands on the wheel so that
you are ready to intervene in the steering at
any time. The driver is always
responsible for keeping the vehicle in its lane.
The lane departure warning assistant does
not detect all lane markings.
Under certain circumstances, the assistant
may confuse poor road conditions, road
structure or objects with the lane marking
lines. Immediately cancel any inopportune
intervention of the system.
Observe the indications on the instrument
panel display and act accordingly.
The traffic situation allows it.
In the following situations, the lane departure
warning system may intervene
inappropriately or fail to assist the driver in
the event of a lane departure.
its regulating function. It is therefore particularly
important for the driver to pay attention in
such situations and, if necessary, to switch off
the system temporarily:
When driving in a very sporty style.
In case of bad weather and road conditions.
On building sites.
On changes of gradient or downhill gradients.
Always observe the vehicle's surroundings
carefully and drive with foresight.
If the camera's field of view is dirty, covered
or damaged, the operation of the lane
departure warning assist may be impaired.
affected.
Introduction to the topic
Within its limitations, Lane Departure Warning
Assist (Lane Assist) assists the driver in
keeping the vehicle in its lane. This function is
not suitable or designed to automatically keep
the vehicle in its lane.
If the problem persists, switch off Front Assist
and contact a specialist workshop.
Lane Departure
Warning
Assist
(Lane Assist)
The lane departure warning assistant detects lane
markings with a camera mounted on the
windscreen. If the vehicle comes too close to a
detected lane marking line, the system warns the
driver by correcting the steering. The driver can
override this steering correction at any time.
System limitations
Use the lane departure warning assistant only on
motorways and roads in good road conditions.
The system is not available in the following cases
(passive state):
Driving at a speed of less than approx. 55
km/h (approx. 32 mph).
The system does not detect any lane
boundary lines.
In sharp bends.
Temporarily if the driving style is very dynamic.
Please note
see at the beginning of this
chapter,
on page 149.
Switching on and off
Depending on the country, the lane departure
warning assistant is always activated when the
ignition is switched on. In the infotainment
system's assistants menu and in the instrument
cluster, you can switch this assistant on and off and
view its status.
Driving with
lane departure
warning assistant
The intelligent Lane Departure Warning Assistant
technology cannot overcome the limits imposed by
the laws of physics and only works within the
limits of the system. If the lane departure warning
assistant is used negligently or unintentionally,
accidents and serious injuries can occur. The
system cannot replace the driver's attention and
forward movements.
Always adapt the speed and the safety distance
to the vehicle in front according to visibility,
weather and climate conditions.
The following are the main reasons for this.
