Doors, engine bonnet and tailgate open
After unlocking the vehicle and while driving, the
instrument cluster display shows whether any of
the doors, the engine bonnet or the tailgate are
open and, if necessary, also indicates this with an
acoustic signal. Depending on the version of the
instrument cluster, the display may vary.
Position of the selector lever
The current position of the selector lever is shown
both next to the lever and on the instrument
cluster display.
If the lever is in the D/S position and in the
Tiptronic position, shows the current gear engaged
on the instrument cluster display.
Outdoor temperature indicator
If the outside temperature is below approx. +4 °C
(+39 °F), the
ice
crystal symbol also lights up on
the outside temperature display.
This symbol
remains lit
until the outside temperature exceeds
+6 °C (+43 °F) → .
In the following situations, the indicated outdoor
temperature may be higher than the actual
temperature due to the heat emitted by the
engine:
— When the vehicle is stopped.
— When driving very slowly.
The measuring range extends from -45 °C (-49 °F)
to +76 °C (+169 °F).
Telephone indications
When a mobile phone is connected via
Bluetooth® , the Bluetooth® symbol is shown in
the instrument cluster display.
In addition, the symbol indicates the battery status
of the phone.
Walking recommendation
During driving, the instrument cluster display may
show a recommendation
of the gear that should be selected to save fuel → p.
109.
Odometer
The total odometer records the total mileage
travelled by the vehicle.
The trip odometer shows the number of kilometres
travelled since the last trip.
— Vehicles with analogue instrument cluster: To
reset the trip odometer to 0, briefly press the
button on the instrument cluster → page 17.
— Vehicles with digital instrument cluster: Set
the trip odometer to zero in the infotainment
system or in the Service menu.

Speed warning for winter tyres
If the set maximum speed is exceeded, this is
indicated on the instrument panel display.

In the infotainment system, in the vehicle settings
menu, you can make settings for the speed
warning → p. 29.
Compass indication
Depending on the equipment, when the ignition is
switched on, the direction of travel is shown in the
instrument cluster display with a symbol, e.g. NO
for north-west.
When the infotainment system is on and no
destination guidance is active, the graphical
representation of a compass is also displayed.
Fuel-efficient driving
While driving, the
display
in the
instrument
cluster
shows when the vehicle
is running with low
fuel consumption.
Distinctive Lettering on Engine (LDM)
Vehicles with analogue instrument panel:
— Switch on the ignition, but do not start the
engine.
— To display the engine lettering, press and hold
on the instrument panel for approx. 15
seconds.
Vehicles with digital instrument panel:
— Open the Service menu → p. 26.
— Select the menu option " Distinctive letters of the mo-
tor" .
