Never loosen the threaded joints of rims with
bolted rings.
•
If the wheel bolts are tightened to a torque
lower than the prescribed torque, the bolts
and rims could come loose while driving. On
the other hand
If the bolts are tightened with a torque wrench,
excessive torque may damage the bolts and the
thread. Check the tightening torque regularly
with a torque spanner.
If unsuitable wheel bolts are fitted, they could
come loose while driving. This could lead to loss of
control of the vehicle, an accident and serious
injury.
•
Only use wheel bolts that match the wheel
rim in question.
•
Never use different wheel bolts.
•
On vehicles with two-piece wheel bolts, fit
only two-piece wheel bolts.
Loosening the anti-theft wheel bolt

Remove the adapter for the anti-theft screw
from the on-board tools.
—
Insert the adapter into the anti-theft screw as
far as it will go.
—
Fit the wheel spanner into the adapter as far as
it will go.
—
Hold the spanner by the end and turn the
screw approx. one turn anticlockwise → .
Screw in the anti-theft wheel bolt (

cover
)
On wheels with integral hubcaps, the anti-theft
wheel bolt must be screwed into the wheel hub.

Tightening torque of wheel bolts
Prescribed tightening torque for steel and light
alloy wheel bolts :

120 Nm (88 ft-lb)
Before checking
the tightening torque, replace any
rusted wheel bolts that are difficult to unscrew
and screw in, and clean the threaded holes of the
wheel hub.
Never apply grease or oil to the wheel bolts and
threaded holes of the wheel hub.
After changing a wheel, have the tightening torque
checked immediately with a fully functional torque
spanner.

If the wheel bolts are tightened improperly, they

wheel hubs shall be clean, free of oil and
grease. The bolts shall be able to de-
easily twisted and curled.

To loosen and tighten the wheel bolts, use only
the wheel spanner supplied with the vehicle.

Before lifting the vehicle with the jack,
loosen the wheel bolts by approx. one turn
only.

Never apply grease or oil to the wheel bolts
