Important information on wheels and tyres
Tyre pressure
Please note at the beginning of this chapter
on
page 259.

Note: check the tyre pressure when the tyres
are cold.
Tyre pressure in case of partial load
Depending on the vehicle: comfort tyre
pressure in case of partial load
Tyre pressure in case of full load
Tyre pressure of spare tyre, inflatable spare
tyre or emergency spare tyre

The tyre pressure gauge (or on the inside of the fuel
filler flap).
The correct tyre pressure for the approved tyres is
shown on the sticker. The sticker is located on the
driver's door pillar → Fig. 182 or on the inside of
the fuel filler flap.
The appearance of the sticker may vary depending
on the vehicle. Additional tyre sizes may be shown.
Incorrect tyre pressure has a negative effect on
driving behaviour, increases tyre wear or even
causes tyre blowouts → . The correct tyre
pressure is particularly important at high speeds.
Comfort tyre pressure
Depending on the vehicle, the tyre pressure sticker
may include a comfort tyre pressure
→ fig. 181 3 . The comfort pressure increases driving
comfort. When driving at comfort pressure, fuel
consumption may increase.
Check tyre pressure
—
Check tyre pressure at least once a month.
—
Check the tyre pressure only when the tyres are
cold. The indicated tyre pressure applies to cold
tyres. The pressure is always higher when the
tyres are hot. Therefore, never let air out of a
hot tyre to adjust the tyre pressure.
—
Always adjust the tyre pressure to the load
condition of the vehicle → fig. 181 4 .
—
After adjusting the tyre pressure, always screw
the caps onto the valves.
and note the information on the tyre control
system.
Incorrect loosening and tightening of wheel bolts
on rims with bolt-on rims can lead to serious
accidents and injuries.
•
Never loosen the threaded joints of rims with
bolted rings.
•
Any work on wheels with bolt-on rims should
be carried out by a specialist workshop.
