NOTICE
If the driver's door is unlocked manually
with the vehicle key, only the driver's door
will be unlocked.
unlocks this door and not the entire vehicle.
Switching on the ignition will deactivate the "safe"
security system for all doors (although they will still
be locked) and the central locking button will be
activated.
Problems and solutions
Note and at the beginning of this
chapter
on page 69.
The control lamp remains lit
The red LED on the door of the connector flashes in
short intervals and then stays on.
There is a malfunction in the locking system.
Visit a specialist workshop. Volkswagen
recommends that you visit a Volkswagen dealer
for this.
The indicators do not flash
If, when the vehicle is locked, the direction
indicators do not flash as confirmation:
At least one door or the tailgate is not closed or
not closed
The front bonnet is not closed.
The vehicle locks automatically
If one of the following conditions is met, the vehicle
is automatically locked again after approx. 45
seconds:
The vehicle has been unlocked, but not
opened.
The ignition has not been switched on.
The tailgate has not been opened.
What happens when locking the vehicle with a
second
key?
Keyless Access" system: The key inside the vehicle
is locked for starting the engine as soon as the
vehicle is locked from the outside with a second
key. However, it is possible to carry out an
emergency start → page 120. To enable the key
inside the vehicle for normal engine start, press
the key's → page 118.
Locking the vehicle after an airbag is triggered
If an airbag is deployed as a result of an accident, the
vehicle is completely unlocked. Depending on the
extent of the damage, the vehicle can be relocked
after the accident as described below:
Switch off the ignition.
Open the driver's door and close it again.
Lock the vehicle.
Automatic deactivation of the sensitive surfaces
The sensor surfaces are deactivated in the following
cases:
If the vehicle is not unlocked or locked for a long
period of time.
If any of the sensing surfaces are activated
unusually often.
To reactivate the sensor surfaces:
Unlock the vehicle by pressing on the vehicle
key.
The sensing surfaces of the door handles could be
activated by a jet of water.
or high-pressure steam if there is a valid vehicle
key in the vicinity. If at least one of the windows is
open and the sensing surfaces of one of the handles
are permanently activated, all windows shall be
closed.

If the 12-volt battery is low on charge
If the battery in the vehicle's key is
discharged, or the button battery in the vehicle's
key is almost empty or exhausted, it may not be
possible to unlock or lock the vehicle with the
Keyless Access system. The vehicle can be
unlocked and locked manually.

If there is no valid vehicle key inside the
vehicle or the system does not detect it,
A warning to this effect will appear on the
instrument cluster display. This could occur if
another RF signal interferes with the key signal.
or if the key is covered by an object, e.g. an
aluminium case → p. 116.
Burglar

Depending on the equipment, the vehicle may be
fitted with an anti-theft alarm.
If the "safe" security is activated, the doors will not
open.
