Overrunning with the
DSG®
dual
clutch
gearbox
This function uses the vehicle's inertia to save fuel
through anticipatory driving. The engine stops
braking the vehicle, which can continue to travel
for a good distance under its own inertia. The
function is only available when the selector lever is
in the D/S position and driving at speeds between
40 and 130 km (25 and 80 mph).
If the brake is applied during coasting, the engine
remains off until the vehicle comes to a stop.
If the brakes are not applied during coasting, the
engine automatically restarts when the vehicle is
rolling very slowly.
The engine can be started automatically to ensure
that the engine can be restarted and that the on-
board network is supplied with the necessary
power supply.
Activate inertial displacement
—
Select the Eco profile in the driving profile
selection → p. 134, → p. 134.
—
Inertia-driven vehicles with dynamic Start-
Stop function: Select the per-
filter
Eco, Normal or Comfort
when selecting the
driving profile → p. 134, → p. 134.
—
Take your foot off the accelerator. The engine
disengages and idles. The vehicle moves forward
without the engine braking effect.
—
Inertia-driven vehicles with dynamic start-stop
function: Slowly take your foot off the
accelerator. The engine can be disengaged
and shut down automatically.
Interrupt inertial displacement
—
Depress the brake pedal hard.
—
OR: briefly depress the accelerator or brake
pedal.
—
OR: pull one of the gearshift paddles towards the
steering wheel.
—
OR: move the selector lever to the Tiptronic
position.
—
OR: change driving profile from Eco, Normal or
Comfort profiles.
Kick-down
The kick-down function allows maximum
acceleration with the selector lever in the D/S or Tip-
tronic position.
When the accelerator pedal is fully depressed, the
automatic transmission downshifts to a lower gear
depending on speed and engine speed. This makes
full use of the vehicle's maximum acceleration →
.
When the accelerator pedal is fully depressed (kick-
down), the automatic change to the next higher
gear only takes place after the preset maximum
engine speed has been reached.
For vehicles with driving profile selection, when the
Eco profile is selected, the Eco
→ p. 134, → p. 134 and the accelerator pedal is
fully depressed beyond the resistance point, the
engine power is automatically regulated so that the
vehicle accelerates to full throttle.
Exit control programme
Depending on the equipment, vehicles with
automatic transmission are equipped with a start
control programme. The start control programme
allows maximum acceleration from a standstill.
—
Switch off the ASR → page 164.
—
Depress the brake pedal with your left foot and
keep it depressed.
—
Move the selector lever to the D/S position and
select the S gear ratio, or move the lever to the
Tiptronic position.
—
OR, for vehicles with driving profile selection,
select the Sport or Race profile.
→ p. 134, → p. 134
—
Step on the accelerator with the right foot until
the engine speed reaches approx. 3200 rpm.
—
Take your left foot off the brake → . The
vehicle will start at full throttle.
—
Switch ASR back on after acceleration!
Rapid acceleration can cause loss of traction and
skidding, especially on slippery roads. This could
lead to loss of vehicle control, accidents and serious
injury.
•
Always adapt your driving style to the driving
situation.
•
Never accelerate hard (kick-down) or abruptly
if visibility, weather, road and traffic
conditions do not allow you to do so.
allow, or if you endanger other road users
with this acceleration and driving style.
•
Please note that the drive wheels and
therefore the vehicle may slip when the
vehicle is in motion.
