The power steering does not work. More
force has to be applied to turn the steering
wheel.
•
If the ignition is switched off, the steering
column lock could engage and it would not
be possible to control the vehicle.
•
The Start-Stop system must always be
switched off when work is being carried out on
the engine compartment.

Shifting gears: m a n u a l gearshift
If the Start-Stop system is used for a long period of
time at very high outside temperatures, the 12-volt
battery may be damaged.
In some cases it may be necessary to restart
the engine manually.
Please note the message that appears on the
instrument cluster display.
In vehicles with driving profile selection → p.
134, the Start-Stop system
is automatically switched on when the Eco profile
is selected.
Always switch off the Start-Stop system at all
times when driving through water.
Problems and solutions
Engine does not start automatically
Inertia-driven vehicles with dynamic start-stop
function: If the engine does not start
automatically, the error message Error: Vehicle energy
system may be displayed. Contact a workshop. on the
instrument cluster display.
— Start the engine manually

— Switch off the Start-Stop system manually.
— Contact a specialist workshop immediately.

Depending on equipment, the vehicle can be
equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission.
Engage forward gears
The position of the individual gears is shown on the
gear lever.
— Depress the clutch pedal fully and hold it down.
— Move the gear lever to the desired position →

— Release the clutch pedal to engage the clutch.
— In some countries the clutch pedal must be
fully depressed for the engine to start.
Engage reverse gear
— Engage reverse gear only when the vehicle is
stationary.
— Depress the clutch pedal fully and hold it down

— Place the gear lever in neutral and press it
down.
— Move the gear lever all the way to the left and
then forwards to bring it into the gear position.
