lock. If the gate is not locked, it could
unexpectedly open while driving.
If there is a lot of snow on the tailgate or a heavy
load is mounted on the tailgate, the tailgate could
close by itself due to the extra weight and cause
serious injury.

Never open the tailgate if there is a lot of snow
on it or if there is a load on it, e.g. on a
luggage rack.
•
Before opening the gate, remove the snow
and car- ga.
Opening and closing the
suitcase
door
If the tailgate is closed inappropriately or
carelessly, serious injury can result.
•
When closing the gate, remove your hands in
good time from the area of the gate travel.
•
When opening the tailgate, make sure that it
is raised as far as it will go.
Never use the opening mechanism to secure a load
or to hold on to. This could cause damage that
could make it impossible to close the tailgate.
Never use the rear window wiper or rear spoiler to
secure loads or to hold on to. This could cause
damage that could result in the wiper breaking.

Opening the tailgate

To unlock the tailgate, press the key on the
vehicle key.

OR: pull up the button on the driver's door →
fig. 65.

Lift the tailgate by pressing the pushbutton
→ fig. 66 and pull it out as far as it will go.
Closing the tailgate
—
Pull the tailgate downwards by the handle of its
inner trim so that it engages in the latch → .
If the doors are locked, the gate will also be locked.
If the tailgate is open or not properly closed, this is
indicated in the instrument cluster display by a
display.
The tailgate locks automatically when the vehicle is
moving.
If, after unlocking the gate, it is not opened
within a few minutes, the gate becomes
to block automatically.
Do not close the tailgate by pressing on the
window with your hand. The window could break
and cause injury.
