Steps to be taken before changing a
street
Wheel bolts
Please note at the beginning of this chapter,
on page 272.
Checklist
In preparation for changing a wheel, always carry
out the following operations in the indicated order
→ :
1.
If you have a tyre failure, park the vehicle on
level, firm ground as far as possible at a safe
distance from road traffic.
2.
Engage the electronic parking brake.
3.
Switch off the engine and remove the key
from the ignition switch.
4.
If the gearbox is manual, engage one gear.
5.
Remove all occupants from the vehicle and
take them to a safe place away from
vehicular traffic.
6.
Switch on the hazard warning flashers and co-
loque the warning triangle → page 61.
7.
Block the diagonally opposite wheel with a
stone, folding chocks or other suitable object.
8.
If the luggage compartment is loaded, remove
all equipment.
9.
Raise the luggage compartment floor or remove
it.
10.
If necessary, remove the subwoofer → p. 274.
11.
Remove the spare or emergency wheel and
on-board tools from the luggage
compartment.

12.
Remove the hubcaps → page 270.

To loosen the wheel bolts, use a suitable wheel
spanner.
Before lifting the vehicle with the jack, loosen the
wheel bolts by approx. one turn only.
If it is not possible to loosen a bolt, use your foot to
carefully apply force to the end of the wheel spanner.
When doing so, hold on to the vehicle and take care
not to lose your balance.

Insert the wheel spanner into the screw as far as it
will go.
