Transport of objects
Loose or improperly secured objects can cause
serious injury in the event of braking, sudden
manoeuvres or an accident. This is especially
true if they are hit by an airbag when it deploys
and are thrown out of the passenger
compartment. To reduce the risk of injury, please
note the following:
Place all objects securely in the vehicle. When
doing so, observe the legal regulations.
Place the objects to be transported in the
habitat in such a way that during the journey
they can never reach the areas where they are
to be removed.

Securely stowing luggage in the vehicle
Distribute the load in the vehicle as evenly as
possible. When doing so, do not cover the
ventilation openings.
Always place luggage and heavy objects in the
luggage compartment → as far forward as
possible.
Observe the maximum permissible axle mass
and the maximum permissible vehicle mass
page 309.
Secure objects to the lashing eyes of the luggage
compartment using suitable lashing straps,
fixing straps or tie-down straps.
Also place small objects securely.
If necessary, raise the backrest of the seat
backrest and fit it correctly.
If necessary, adjust the headlamp range → p.
95. On vehicles with dynamic headlamp range
adjustment, the headlamps adapt automatically.
Adapt the tyre pressure to the load accordingly.
Observe the tyre pressure sticker → page 263.
If the rear windows are rubbed against objects, this
can cause damage, e.g. to the filaments of the heat
shield.
