Raise the vehicle with the jack (
step
1)
If the changed wheel fits into the spare wheel
well, place it rim-side down in the spare wheel
well so that the centre hole of the rim is just
above the hole or grub screw.
Screw the wheel clockwise onto the grub screw
until the changed wheel is securely fastened.
Fit the wedge of the anti-rotation lock → fig. 193
in the groove of the grub screw so that the wheel
can no longer be turned.
Replace the on-board tools in their housing
and store them in the luggage compartment.
If necessary, fit the luggage compartment floor.
Close the tailgate.
If the changed wheel does not fit in the spare
wheel well, store it securely in the luggage
compartment on the floor.
If the spare wheel is different from those
fitted
to
the vehicle
If the spare wheel is different from those fitted to
the vehicle, use it only briefly in the event of a
breakdown → .
Please observe the following
driving
instructions:
Do not drive faster than 80 km/h (50 mph)!
Avoid accelerating hard, braking sharply or
cornering at high speed!
Do not use snow chains on the emergency
wheel → p. 269.
After fitting the spare or emergency wheel,
check the tyre pressure p. 263 as soon as
possible.
The tyre pressure of the spare, oversize spare or
emergency tyre must be checked every time the
tyre pressure of the fitted tyres is tested, at least
once a month. The tyre pressure of the spare,
reduced-size spare or emergency tyre must
correspond to the tyre pressure indicated on the
tyre pressure sticker when the tyre is cold. → p.

Only attach the jack to the underbody
reinforcements behind the markings on the vehicle
body → fig. 194. The valid jacking point is the one
next to the wheel → .
Some vehicles may be fitted with an
emergency wheel instead of a spare wheel.
The emergency wheel
is recognisable by a sticker and the inscription
"80 km/h" or "50 mph". This figure indicates the
speed of the vehicle.
The maximum permissible capacity for this type
of wheel. Do not cover the adhesive while
using the wheel.
Never drive faster than 80 km/h (50 mph).
Avoid accelerating, braking and cornering
at high speed.
Never drive more than 200 km (125 miles)
with an emergency wheel fitted to the drive
axle.
Replace the emergency wheel with a normal
wheel as soon as possible. The emergency
wheel is designed for short term use only.
Always secure the emergency wheel with the
wheel bolts supplied from the factory.
Never ride with more than one rear wheel
fitted if they are different from the wheels
fitted to the vehicle.
After mounting the emergency wheel, check
the tyre pressure as soon as possible → p.
263.
Do not mount snow chains on the snow tyre.

Improper use of the spare or emergency wheel
may result in loss of control of the vehicle, a
collision or other accident, and serious injury.
Never use the spare or emergency wheel if it
is damaged or worn down to the wear
indicators.
