D-Link UWS User Manual
Table 338: RF Channel Plan and Power Adjustment
Field Description
Channel Plan Each AP is dual-band capable of operating in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies. The
802.11a/n and 802.11b/g/n modes use different channel plans. Before you configure
channel plan settings, select the mode to configure.
Channel Plan Mode This field indicates the channel assignment mode. The mode of channel plan
assignment can be one of the following:
Fixed Time: If you select the fixed time channel plan mode, you specify the time
for the channel plan and channel assignment. In this mode the plan is applied
once every 24 hours at the specified time.
Manual: With the manual channel plan mode, you control and initiate the
calculation and assignment of the channel plan. You must manually run the
channel plan algorithm and apply the channel plan to the APs.
Interval: In the interval channel plan mode, the switch periodically calculates and
applies the channel plan. You can configure the interval to be from every 6 to
every 24 hours. The interval period begins when you click Submit.
Channel Plan Interval If you select the Interval channel plan mode, you can specify the frequency at which
the channel plan calculation and assignment occurs. The interval time is in hours, and
you can specify an interval that ranges between every 6 hours to every 24 hours.
Channel Plan Fixed
Time
If you select the Fixed Time channel plan mode, you can specify the time at which
the channel plan calculation and assignment occurs. The channel plan calculation will
occur once every 24 hours at the time you specify.
Ignore Unmanaged APs This parameter indicates whether the ACA should pay attention only to APs managed
by the cluster or all detected APs when deciding what channel to select for the radio.
The parameter is enabled by default.
In many deployments the managed network is the primary 802.11 network. All other
802.11 APs are expected to plan their channels around the managed network or be
removed. For example in a school students often bring laptops that are configured
to run as APs. It is not desirable to change the managed network channels when such
APs are detected in the network.
An example of a deployment where the “Ignore Unmanaged APs” should be disabled
is a multi-tenant building. If neighbor tenants use the 802.11 APs then it may be
desirable to plan the channel usage not to conflict with those APs.
Channel Change
Threshold
The administrator can configure the detected neighbor signal strength that triggers
the channel plan to reevaluate the current operating channel. If the operating
channel detects neighbor APs operating on the same channel with signal below this
threshold then the AP does not try to select a new channel for the radio. The default
value for this threshold is -82dBm. The range is -99dBm to -1dBm.
Managed AP CH
conflict Threshold
The administrator can configure the CH Conflict Threshold to avoid nearing neighbor
APs change to the same channel that has lowest interference. How are the APs
“nearing” depend on the signal strength. When ACA is calculating each AP’s channel
interference, the nearing neighbor APs may detect same channel has lowest
interference and attempt to change to this channel. To avoid nearing APs change to
the same channel, ACA will check if any nearing AP that its signal strength above the
Conflict Threshold has already changed its radio to the channel that the candidate AP
prepare to change to. If so, the ACA will abort to change candidate APs channel and
staying in original operation channel.
